Texas – Governor Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission received federal approval to extend the deadline for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients in Bexar County to request replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed during recent storms and power outages.
SNAP recipients in Bexar County now have until Sept. 17, 2026, to report their food loss and request replacement benefits. The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved the extension at the request of HHSC, increasing the reporting period from 10 days to 20 days.
“SNAP replacement benefits will help families replace food that was lost or destroyed as we deliver all available resources to affected Texans,” Abbott said.
Eligible recipients who submit a replacement request should receive the funds on their Lone Star Cards within two business days.
SNAP recipients can request replacement benefits by calling 2-1-1, selecting their preferred language and then choosing option 7. They can also visit a local HHSC office to submit a request.
The state also said clients of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) may request replacement benefits for food purchased with September WIC benefits that was lost because of power outages or storm damage.
WIC clients who need replacement benefits should contact their local WIC office before Sept. 30, 2026.
Texas officials said residents affected by disasters can also access information and local assistance through HHSC’s disaster assistance resources. Texans seeking local resources such as food or shelter can call 2-1-1 and select option 1.
