Galveston, TX – Galveston Police mourned the passing of retired Officer Joe Maffei, Badge #637, who dedicated more than four decades to law enforcement.
Maffei served the Galveston Police Department for 34 years before continuing his career with the United States Marshals Service, where he served for more than a decade.
The Galveston Police Department said Maffei’s career reflected courage, strength, loyalty and a lasting commitment to protecting others. The department described him as an important part of its history whose knowledge and experience influenced generations of Galveston police officers.
Throughout his career, Maffei earned the respect of fellow officers and was remembered as a proven lawman, trusted partner and loyal friend. His service extended well beyond his years with the department, with more than four decades devoted to protecting and serving others.
The department extended its condolences to Maffei’s family, friends, former partners and everyone whose life he touched.
“Joe Maffei and the standard of service he leaves behind” will always be remembered by the Galveston Police Department, officials said.
Maffei’s death was also mourned by other law enforcement agencies and organizations across the Galveston area, which remembered him as a legendary member of the Galveston Police Department.
